EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

 RARE NEW JERSEY MARIS 38-B

LOT 250 1787 New Jersey Maris 38-b, W-5185 R6+ G4 . Sharper, especially on the reverse where many of the details are VF, but cleaned and covered with fine roughness. A dent under the plow handles caused a bulge over the left top of the shield. The date is weak with only a couple digits still visible, but most of the legends are visible. Poorly struck, as usual, and the reverse is misaligned to K-7. Far from perfect but quite rare, and a proper retoning should improve the eye appeal. Weight 105.4 grains.

LOT 251 Quartet of New Jersey Coppers, 1787 & 1788 . Includes 1787 Maris 38-Y R3 F15 net VG7 for fine roughness (struck slightly off center to K-7.5), 1787 Maris 43-d R1 F12 net VG7 for fine roughness and cleaning, 1787 Maris 64-t R1 G5, and 1788 Maris 77-dd R2 Running Fox AG3 (smooth, just worn with a visible fox). Lot of 4 coins.

LOT 253 1781 North American Token Breen-1144, W-13980 R2, PCGS graded VF20 . Steel brown and olive with traces of frosty lighter brown in protected areas. Possibly cleaned long ago. No roughness, just moderate wear. The only marks are two small nicks in the field off the knees of the seated figure. Listed on page 71 in the “Redbook.” (The holder is badly scuffed.). Certification Number 589.20/11134389

LOT 254 1789 Mott Token, Thick Planchet with Engrailed Edge, Breen-1024, PCGS graded MS62 Brown . Frosty light brown with steel brown toning on the highpoints. There is a trace of friction on the highest points of the devices and a few tiny planchet flakes and fissures on both sides, none significant. MDS.
