EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS
LOT 235 1778 Machin’s Mills Vlack 13-78B, W-7840 R5 G6 . Significantly sharper but covered with uniform fine to moderate granularity. There is a fine diagonal scratch through OR in GEORGIVS, a planchet flaw on the right side of the reverse (as struck), and a few patches of raised dark verdigris on the lower part of the seated figure. The sharpness on the obverse is much sharper than on the reverse due to strong swelling on the reverse from the late die state. The date is mostly gone, only the 87 can be made out and it is weak. Weight is 115.1 grains.
LOT 232 1778 Machin’s Mills Vlack 11-78A, W-7820 R3, PCGS graded VF35 . Glossy light chocolate brown. Smooth with trivial marks including a tiny planchet clip at the top of the reverse (as struck). LDS with swelling that nearly obliterates REX and the opposing A in NIA. The bottom of the date is tight to the edge of the planchet and the bottom of the 8 is weak. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. Certification Number 826952.35/43354474

LOT 234 1778 Machin’s Mills Vlack 13-78B, W-7840, R5 PCGS graded VF35 . Mostly glossy light chocolate and reddish brown with lighter tan on the highpoints. Mostly smooth but there are a few small patches of fine roughness and verdigris, particularly at the X in REX. Just minor marks including a couple hairline scratches on the upper part of the reverse and small planchet flakes on the mailed bust and on the torso of the seated figure. EDS. The date is bold and the legends are clear. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. Certification Number 826954.35/39654035
LOT 237 1784 Machin’s Mills Vlack 14-84A, W-8130 R5, PCGS graded F12 . Glossy olive brown and steel. Mostly smooth but a glass reveals microscopic granularity in the fields and protected areas. No verdigris or notable marks other than some planchet striations at NI on the reverse. Struck using crude dies that were nearly worn out, and the reverse is rotated 105 degrees clockwise relative to the normal head-to-foot die orientation. The date is bold but die failure weakens parts of the legend. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. Certification Number 935.12/46089934
