LOT 224 1747 Machin’s Mills Vlack 1-47A, W-7660 R5 VG7 . Several points sharper with fine roughness in the fields and protected areas while the highpoints are smooth. There are areas of crusted shallow verdigris in protected areas on both sides, strongest at TAN. Slightly glossy dark olive with lighter steel brown on the highpoints. The date is easily readable and the legends are clear. A variety that is nearly impossible to find without surface issues. Weight 114.5 grains.

LOT 225 1771 Machin’s Mills Vlack 2-71A, W-7670 R4+ F15 . Sharpness near VF25 but covered with light roughness and recolored, now a slightly glossy medium brown and light chocolate with lighter highpoints. No verdigris or notable marks. Softly struck at the top of the head opposite the shield that consumed more than its share of the planchet metal. Struck slightly off center to K-1 leaving the lower part of the date off the planchet. The legends are complete and strong. Weight 111.2 grains.

 ATTRACTIVE RARE MACHIN’S VLACK 6-72A

LOT 226 1772 Machin’s Mills Vlack 6-72A, W-7720 R6, PCGS graded VF20 . Very attractive glossy chocolate brown with lighter brown toning covering the devices on both sides. The two-tone appearance accents those devices and the eye appeal of this piece is quite nice. There are traces of verdigris in a few protected areas, mostly around VS in GEORGIVS, but it takes a glass to see any of it. The only notable mark is a light horizontal scratch well hidden in the toning over the ear. The central area on the reverse is not fully struck, as usual, but everything else is strong. Struck with the obverse slightly misaligned to K-11 affecting only the dentils. A really nice example of this tough Machin’s variety. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label.
