EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS
LOT 217 1788 Connecticut Miller 15.1-L.1 R3+ Draped Bust Left, PCGS graded VF25 . Very attractive glossy light to medium brown blending to light olive brown in protected areas. Smooth except for a shallow planchet fissure at the bust on the obverse. This piece has two planchet clips: a minor straight one over TORI and a more-obvious curved one at EC and the shoulder. Struck slightly off center to K-5, similar to the Ford example, causing the second 8 to be very weak. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. Certification Number 687235.25/82657014
Ex the Copper Mountain Collection
LOT 219 1788 Connecticut Miller 16.1-H R4 DBL, PCGS graded AU50 . Medium reddish brown and light chocolate with frost in protected areas, particularly on the reverse. Sharp with very little wear on the devices but there are tiny planchet flakes on the obverse and specks of shallow reddish verdigris. The reverse, however, is smooth and absolutely choice. The obverse is centered on the planchet but the reverse is off a bit to K-10. Intermediate die state with fine cracks and strong die clashmarks on the obverse. Clearly superior to the Ford and Perkins examples, at least comparable to the Taylor coin. Weight 118.3 grains. The attribution and Sydney F. Martin Collection provenance are noted on the special PCGS label. Certification Number 687238.50/36651084
LOT 218 1788 Connecticut Miller 16.1-D R3 DBL, PCGS graded XF+V28530 . Choice glossy light to medium brown with darker steel brown and chocolate toning on the highpoints. The planchet is smooth with no trace of flaws or verdigris, and the eye appeal of this piece is excellent. The only marks are a few light rim nicks on both sides, the largest one under the shoulder. The date is bold and the legends are clear. Intermediate die state with die cracks on the reverse and a cud break at the I in LIB, but the cud at the feet has not formed. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. (The holder is lightly scuffed.). Certification Number 687237.40/40477715
