A spot of darker toning high on the shoulder is the only notable mark. Later die state with obvious swelling on the obverse, mostly at NNEC. Struck slightly off center leaving small parts of the legend off the planchet. The date is complete and clear. Struck with the reverse rotated 160 degrees clockwise, nearly head to head. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. Certification Number 687254.20/46409456

DRAMATIC DOUBLE STRIKE
LOT 216 1788 Connecticut Miller 14.2-A.2 R5 Draped Bust Left, PCGS graded VF30 . Glossy medium chocolate brown. Smooth with a planchet crack in the edge at K-1 on the reverse. Double struck with the first strike reasonably well centered on the planchet and the second about 35% off center to K-10. A portion of the edge was tapped down to eliminate the bulge created by the off-center impression (probably done at the “mint” before releasing the coin for circulation). The date on the first impression is not visible but the 178 from the off-center strike is clear. An impressive piece, and the “Double Struck” feature is noted on the PCGS label in addition to the attribution and Robert M. Martin Collection provenance. Certification Number 687234.30/38410509
Ex Robert M. Martin, Stack’s Bowers 11/15/2019:5312-the Copper Mountain Collection (includes the Martin collection envelope and lot ticket)
