EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS
LOT 186 1787 Connecticut Miller 33.37-Z.9 R5 DBL, PCGS graded VF30 . Rather glossy olive brown and steel with lighter steel brown toning on the devices. Looks smooth but a glass reveals extremely fine roughness covering both sides. The only notable marks are a small planchet fissure at UC and another through the N in INDE. Late die state, clearly later than the Ford, Taylor, and Perkins examples, with die cracks and swelling on both sides. The date is bold. Struck slightly off center to K-9. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. Certification Number 686341.30/46409454
LOT 184 1787 Connecticut Miller 33.36-T.2 R2 DBL, PCGS graded VF30 . Rather glossy medium brown and light chocolate. Mostly smooth but there are small planchet fissures and chips on both sides including an obvious flake in the hair at the top of the head and a smaller one at the chest of the seated figure. No notable contact marks, just lightly worn. Later die state than the preceding example with more swelling in the field before the portrait and a hint of swelling under the bust. The obverse is slightly misaligned to K-4.5; the reverse is nearly centered on the planchet. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. (The front of the holder is scuffed.). Certification Number 686340.30/42629455

LOT 185 1787 Connecticut Miller 33.36-T.2 R2 DBL, PCGS graded VF30 . Rather glossy golden light brown and tan with light reddish chocolate in protected areas. Lightly worn with no verdigris or notable contact marks, but the planchet is oddly defective. In addition to a straight planchet clip at CO (end of strip), there are two significant but reasonably smooth voids on the obverse: one from the chest to CO and another in the field before the face. The planchet is not perfectly round, either. The legends are strong and the 87 is clear, but the 17 is weakened by a small planchet void. The attribution is written in the field before the chin and neck, and this piece comes from the famous Taylor collection. Weight listed as a rather skimpy 115.6 grains in the Taylor catalog (makes sense considering the voids). The attribution and Twin Leaf provenance are noted on the PCGS label. Certification Number 686340.30/36857183
LOT 187 1787 Connecticut Miller 33.38-Z.1 R5+ DBL VF30 . Glossy light chocolate brown. Smooth except for some small planchet chips on the face, neck, and center of the reverse, plus a larger one near the rim left of the head of the seated figure. Struck a bit off center to K-7. Very late die state, the latest seen, with significant swelling at the bottom of the obverse and much of the reverse plus myriad die cracks on both sides. The date is bold and the legends are strong except for AUC that was affected by the off-center strike. The attribution is written in the field before the portrait in black ink. Weight 156.8 grains.
Provenance not recorded but comes with an old collector envelope with lot #128 stamped on the front
