EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS
RARE LATE STATE 1787 M.33.8-Z.19
LOT 156 1787 Connecticut Miller 33.8-Z.19 R6+ DBL, PCGS graded VF25 . Mostly glossy medium brown and chocolate with hints of mahogany in protected areas. No corrosion or planchet flaws, just light contact marks. The notable marks are a couple very dull, light marks on the cheek and a light vertical scratch at the right edge of the nostril. Struck off center to K-4.5, as usual on this variety, but this one is a bit farther off center than most. In addition there is a straight-edge planchet clip at NEC and the opposing ET L(IB). The date is bold. Late die state with a wider crack at the A in AUCTORI than on the Ford, Taylor, and Perkins examples. Superior to the Miller-Ford example of this very rare variety. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. Certification Number 685176.25/42629489

LOT 158 1787 Connecticut Miller 33.10-Z.7 R6 DBL, PCGS graded F15 . Slightly glossy dark olive brown with light brown on the devices. Looks smooth to the unaided eye but both sides are covered with extremely fine roughness. No verdigris and the only marks are a rather fresh nick on the rim at the E in CONNEC, a minor rim bruise under the 87, and a fine vertical planchet fissure through the outstretched hand (as struck). The two-tone appearance accents the devices and this piece has nice eye appeal in spite of the imperfect surfaces. Late die state with obvious swelling off the chin and along the lower part of the obverse. Certification Number 685178.15/42629487
LOT 157 1787 Connecticut Miller 33.9-s.2 R2 DBL, PCGS graded AU50 . Glossy medium brown and light chocolate with speckles of dark olive on both sides, mostly inside the tiny planchet chips and fissures. The only notable planchet flaws are a small void high on the bust, a shallow one in the dentils above OR in AUCTORI, and another on the edge at the right side of the O in CONNEC. Otherwise just lightly worn with no notable contact marks. Very late die state with extensive die rust on the reverse and numerous die cracks on both sides. The rust is so severe that it distorts the numerals in the date. A neat die state for an otherwise common die variety. Weight 134.6 grains. The attribution and Robert M. Martin Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. (The front of the holder is scratched.). Certification Number 685177.50/38407347
