 THE MILLER-FORD 33.4-Z.2 RARITY

LOT 153 1787 Connecticut Miller 33.4-Z.2 R7- DBL, PCGS graded VF35 . Rather glossy dark olive brown. Looks smooth to the unaided eye but a glass reveals microscopic roughness in the fields and protected areas. The highpoints are smooth. No verdigris and just a few trivial contact marks including two small nicks in the field before the nose and chin. Struck a bit off center to K-7 leaving the lower half of the date off the planchet. Not perfect but still quite nice, certainly one of the finest of this very rare variety. Weight 132.7 grains. Comes with a great provenance. The attribution and Twin Leaf provenance are noted on the PCGS label. Certification Number 685169.35/36054160

Ex Henry C. Miller, Thomas L. Elder 5/29/1920:1970-unknown-John J. Ford, Jr., Stack’s 5/10/2005:359 (brought $6900)-W. M. “Jack” Wadlington (the Twin Leaf Collection)-the Copper Mountain Collection (includes the Miller collection ticket, the Ford lot ticket, and the Wadlington collection notes)

LOT 155 1787 Connecticut Miller 33.7-r.2 R1 DBL, NGC graded AU58 . Choice frosty medium brown with slightly darker steel brown on the highpoints. Satiny mint frost covers the fields and protected areas and this piece has superb eye appeal. The only defects are some of the usual tiny planchet chips on the face and on the seated figure (as struck). A pair of tiny planchet fissures at the top of the obverse may help identify this piece. Struck very slightly off center to the bottom affecting only the border dentils. Common but beautiful. The attribution and Hall-Donald G. Partrick Collection provenance are noted on the NGC label. Certification Number 2051355-004

LOT 154 1787 Connecticut Miller 33.4-q R5 DBL, PCGS graded F12 . Choice glossy light to medium brown. Smooth and void of defects, just evenly worn. Struck very slightly off center to the top leaving the bottom of the date tight to the edge, but everything is clear. Later die state with die cracks on both sides. Weight a hefty 162.8 grains. The attribution and Twin Leaf provenance are noted on the PCGS label. (The holder is scuffed.). Certification Number 685170.12/36054161
