EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS
THE “PUNCTUATED DATE” VARIETY
LOT 151 1787 Connecticut Miller 33.2-Z.22 R6- DBL, PCGS graded VF25 . Variety with a punctuated date (17,87) and INDE over IODE. Glossy dark olive brown and steel with lighter steel brown toning on the devices. Covered with fine granularity that’s rather well hidden under the toning. A small planchet chip or pit in the center of the neck is the best identifying mark. Late die state with strong clashmarks at IN in INDE. The date is bold, the “comma” between the 17 and 87 is strong, and the INDE over IODE error is clear. Not perfect but still one of the finer examples known of this tough variety. Weight 140.4 grains. The attribution and Twin Leaf provenance are noted on the PCGS label. Certification Number 685208.25/36054056
Ex Stack’s 1/16/2001:76-W. M. “Jack” Wadlington (the Twin Leaf Collection)-the Copper Mountain Collection (includes the first lot ticket)

Mostly smooth but there are tiny planchet chips on the neck and drapery on the obverse and similar chipping on the upper half of the seated figure. Sharply struck and nicely centered. Later die state with die rust and flowlines evident around the devices. The die crack to the elbow of the outstretched arm is strong. One of the finest known of this variety. Weight 135.2 grains. The attribution and Twin Leaf provenance are noted on the PCGS label. Certification Number 685209.55/36054057
