EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

LOT 106 1786 Connecticut Miller 5.2-O.2 R6 MBL VF25 . Mostly glossy light olive and medium brown with darker reddish chocolate toning in protected areas, particularly on the reverse. Extremely fine roughness covers all but the highpoints, and traces of very shallow reddish verdigris or scale can be found in a few places. There is a small patch of stronger roughness in the field at the forehead, but it does not catch your eye. The only planchet flaw is a small fissure at the rim over EC in CONNEC, and this flaw does not affect any of the design elements. The date and legends are complete and clear. Rather early die state with moderate swelling at UC that allows those letters to remain clearly visible. A rare variety that was missing in the famous Ford collection. Weight 145.2 grains.

LOT 104 1786 Connecticut Miller 5.2-I R4 MBL VG8, Obverse Reengraved . Sharper but cleaned, dented, and the obverse portrait lightly reengraved. No corrosion or verdigris but there is a minor planchet fissure at EC in CONNEC. The date and legends are clear except for weakness on the 8. Fine but relatively unskilled engraving on the portrait was intended to strengthen those details. Mostly glossy chocolate, steel, and rose. An odd piece that comes with a very nice provenance. Weight 121.5 grains.

LOT 105 1786 Connecticut Miller 5.2-L R5 MBL, PCGS graded VF20 . Mostly glossy dark olive brown and steel with lighter brown on the obverse devices. Smooth except for a thin linear fissure from the field off the chin to the shoulder and tiny planchet flakes on the lower half of the reverse. The date is strong and the legends are clear except for UC due to the normal swelling at that spot. The only contact marks are a light scuff on the neck and a pair of tiny rim nicks under the shoulder. Struck in medal orientation with the dies head-to-head. Not perfect but still smoother than the Perkins, Ford, or Taylor examples. The attribution and Twin Leaf provenance are noted on the PCGS label. Certification Number 686834.20/36857355

LOT 107 1786 Connecticut Miller 5.4-G R2 MBL VF20 . Glossy olive brown and steel with lighter brown in protected areas, mostly on the reverse. Considerably sharper but there are obvious planchet fissures on the obverse and many small contact marks on the left side of the reverse, strongest around INDE. The date is bold and the legends are strong. Weight 139.5 grains.
