Later die state with minor swelling on both sides and a small cud break at the top of the reverse. A very nice Connecticut copper that comes with an equally nice provenance. Weight 132.2 grains. 1785 Connecticut Miller 6.4-I R2 MBR, PCGS graded VF20 . Glossy light to medium brown blending to light chocolate in protected areas. Smooth and quite nice for the grade except for a half dozen tiny pits on the top of the reverse. The largest pit is on the neck of the seated figure and it contains some greenish verdigris. The only contact mark is a small rim nick at the E in CONNEC. The date is clear, although the 1 is a bit weak, and the legends are strong. Softly struck in the middle of the reverse, as usual on this variety. The attribution and Robert M. Martin Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. LOT 97
1785 Connecticut Miller 6.4-I R2 MBR, PCGS graded VF35 . Attractive glossy light brown on the devices, olive brown in the fields and protected areas. The two-tone color accents the details and this piece has great eye appeal. Smooth and nearly flawless, just lightly worn. The only flaws are a tiny planchet void in the field behind the head of the seated figure and a shallow depression at the bottom of the neck where there was not enough planchet metal available to fill both that spot and the opposing bust of the seated figure. Nicely centered with a bold date and legends. Later die state with a small cud break reaching inside the dentils at the top of the reverse. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label.
