LOT 82
1785 Connecticut Miller 1-E R4 Mailed Bust Right (MBR) VF25 . Mostly glossy light olive brown and chocolate. The details are sharper than the assigned grade but fine porosity shows in the fields and protected areas, strongest above the outstretched arm on the reverse. No verdigris or planchet defects, and the only notable marks are a dull, very shallow scratch on the jawline and a small rim bruise at K-11 on the reverse. Early die state, before the small lump under the jaw. Struck slightly off center to K-5 leaving the bust tight to the edge. The date is bold. Weight 157.4 grains. Comes with a very nice provenance. 1788 Massachusetts Cent with Period Ryder 4-G, W-6230 R4 PCGS graded XF45 . Glossy medium brown and light chocolate with slightly lighter brown on the highpoints. Sharply struck with bold details and smooth, hard fields on both sides. There are some tiny planchet chips at the waist of the Indian (as struck). A spot of darker chocolate brown toning under the H in WEALTH is the best identifying mark. A very nice Massachusetts Cent. Listed on page 59 in the “Redbook.”. Certification Number 948.45/38306069

1788 Massachusetts Cent without Period Ryder 6-N, W-7240 R3 PCGS graded XF45 . Glossy medium brown and light chocolate. Smooth with light wear on the devices. The only notable defects are some minor planchet striation lines created by the planchet rollers, mostly right of the Indian’s feet and through the T in CENT on the shield. 1785 Connecticut Miller 3.1-L R4+ MBR, PCGS graded XF45 . Glossy medium brown blending to light chocolate in protected areas. An above average planchet for this variety with only minor planchet flaws including a small one on the cheek and a longer one through the globe and 7. No corrosion, verdigris, or notable contact marks. Superior to the Perkins and Taylor examples of the variety. Struck with the reverse misaligned to K-7 leaving part of the 17 off the planchet. Weight 137.2 grains. The attribution and Robert M. Martin Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. 1788 Massachusetts Cent with Period Ryder 8-C, W-6260 R3 NGC graded AU50 . Glossy medium brown and light chocolate. Smooth with a few minor planchet defects including a thin void through the star left of the Indian’s face. A variety that is difficult to find in high grade.
