LOT 621 1838 N-16 R5- F15 . Glossy steel brown with lighter brown and tan in protected areas. Smooth with minor marks including a small nick on the end of the nose and a very light rim bruise at star 8. Struck from heavily worn dies, as always for this rare variety. Graded F15 net F12 and tied for CC#17 in the Noyes census, his photo #33054.

LOT 618 1838 N-12 R2 Doubled Die Reverse, PCGS graded AU58 . Frosty tan and light steel brown with darker steel brown toning on the highpoints. The surfaces are satiny and lustrous and there is just a touch of friction on the highpoints. Nearly void of marks; a tiny planchet fissure in the dentils over the first S in STATES is the best identifying mark. MDS with fine flowlines in the fields and more than half the dentils still visible on the reverse. The doubled reverse die features are clear, strongest on the wreath below TE in UNITED and on the berries under the first S in STATES. This is a real doubled die, not doubling caused by die bounce or “machine doubling.” Our grade is AU58. Certification Number 1741.58/83090698
