LOT 592 1837 N-5 R2 Plain Hair Cord, Small Letters VF35 . Glossy light to medium brown with darker chocolate and steel brown on the devices. Mint frost shows in protected areas on the reverse. Just a couple minor marks including a diagonal nick in the field off the chin and a dull horizontal nick under the left edge of the earlobe. M-LDS, Grellman state c. The die line connecting the I & T in UNITED is gone.
LOT 595 1837 N-8/7 R1 Plain Hair Cord, Medium Letters F15+ . Glossy medium brown and light chocolate. Smooth with a few marks including a minor rim bruise above star 5 and a spot of fine carbon at the left top of the C in CENT. M-LDS, Grellman state d late. The die lines over ERICA are gone, the dentils on the reverse are gone, but the lump at the top of the N in CENT is clear (Newcomb’s old #7).

LOT 593 1837 N-6 R2 Plain Hair Cord, Medium Letters AU58 . Frosty light bluish steel brown with mint luster in the fields and protected areas, particularly on the reverse. Sharp and attractive with just a touch of friction on the highpoints. E-MDS, Grellman state a, with a clear line of die lumps under the berry right of the E in UNITED.
LOT 596 1837 N-9 R1 Head of 1838 EF40+ . Attractive glossy light brown very delicately woodgrained with slightly darker brown on the reverse. Smooth with no significant marks, just light wear on the devices. Close to EF45. M-LDS, Grellman state f, with numerous fine die cracks on the obverse.

LOT 594 1837 N-8/7 R1 Plain Hair Cord, Medium Letters AU58 . Lustrous light to medium steel brown with steel brown toning on the highpoints and a few puffs of darker steel brown in protected areas on the reverse. Sharply struck with a few trivial marks including a couple tiny ticks on the jaw and a small swipe of reddish toning under TE in UNITED. EDS, Grellman state a, with strong, rough die lines at ERICA (Newcomb’s #8). Removed from a PCGS holder graded MS62BN (PCGS label #1735.62/29141143 included).
LOT 597 1837 N-10 R1 Head of 1838 MS60 . The “Accessory N” variety. Lustrous bluish steel brown. Satiny and void of contact marks, but there are two shallow planchet flakes on the obverse: one on the bottom of the 7 and another at the dentils right of the date. A similar thin planchet flaw passes down through the ST in STATES. All three of these planchet defects are as struck, of course. LDS, Grellman f, with a rim cud break reaching to under the lower right point of star 13. The stray N punched into the leaves below the N in UNITED is weak but still partially visible.
