EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

LOT 565 1835 N-3 R3 Small Date, Stars, & Letters F15 . Ten points sharper but there are scratches on both sides, especially in the field before the portrait where the scratches are quite light, and down through the E in CENT where the scratches are stronger. In addition there are some light rim bruises at ED, STATE, and OF. The toning is an attractive glossy light to medium brown with steel brown on the highpoints. EDS, Grellman state a, before any crumbling in the dentils on the obverse.

LOT 562 1835 N-1 R1 Large Date & Stars AU55 . Very attractive lustrous light brown with slightly darker steel brown on the highpoints. Satiny mint frost covers the fields and protected areas and there is just a light touch of friction on the highpoints. The only mark is a nick-like planchet void under star 5 (as struck). MDS, Grellman state a, with fine radial die flowlines in the fields and no die crack to the dentils above star 12. A choice cent.

LOT 563 1835 N-1 R1 Large Date & Stars, PCGS graded XF45 . Glossy medium brown and light chocolate. Lightly worn and the only notable mark is a small chip out of the planchet on the bottom of the jaw. LDS, Grellman state b, with a radial crack to the dentils from the earlier crack connecting stars 11 & 12. Our grade is VF30+. (The holder is scuffed.). Certification Number 1720.45/19329506

LOT 566 1835 N-4 R4+ Small Date, Stars, & Letters F15+ . Sharpness VF20 or slightly better but there are too many contact marks for the sharpness. A sharp diagonal nick off the chin is the only mark that catches your eye. The surfaces are smooth and the toning is a rather glossy light olive and steel with reddish brown in protected areas. EDS, Grellman state a, without the radial cracks to the dentils from the N or D in UNITED.

LOT 564 1835 N-2 R3 Small Date, Stars, & Letters VF35 . Sharpness close to AU50 with very little wear on the devices, but the reverse is covered with microscopic specks of corrosion and verdigris. The obverse is quite nice and mint frost shows in many of the protected areas. Just a few contact marks including a couple nicks under star 8 and a fine diagonal scratch through ON and EN inside the wreath. EDS, Grellman state a, with sharp repunching inside the bottom of the U in UNITED. There is a clear double profile on the forehead, lips, and chin with additional doubling on several of the stars (from die bounce or “machine doubling”). Graded EF45 net VF30 and tied for CC#22 in the Noyes census, his photo #59613.

LOT 567 1835 N-5 R2 Small Date, Stars, & Letters EF45 . Sharpness close to AU50 but there are a half dozen very fine scratches in the field before the portrait, a sharp nick just right of star 7, and a small planchet chip out of the rim at the C in AMERICA (as struck). Otherwise the surfaces are smooth and satiny with attractive frosty olive brown and steel toning. MDS with fine flowlines in the obverse fields.
