Satiny and quite attractive with just a hint of rub on the highest points. A small void in the dentils over the M in AMERICA is the best identifying feature of this cent (as struck). M-LDS, Grellman state b. The fields are flowlined and the dentils are weak and partial. Removed from a PCGS holder graded AU55 (PCGS label #1696.55/4517906 included).

LOT 555 1833 N-6 R1 PCGS graded MS61 Red & Brown . Lustrous medium steel brown with 10% of the obverse and two-thirds of the reverse showing bright mint color. The surfaces are satiny and this cent appears to be choice mint state at first glance, but there is a line of dull nicks down the profile from the nose to the bust tip, strongest on the jaw. The reverse is nearly flawless and has the eye appeal of a solid gem. LDS, Grellman state c, with a tiny cud break between the two die cracks that pass through the bottom of the N in UNITED. The reverse is rotated 25 degrees clockwise. Our grade is net AU55. The attribution and Ahumada provenance are noted on the PCGS label. Certification Number 37034.61/83244867

Ex Thomas D. Reynolds-Al Nelson Collection (includes the Reynolds sales envelope)

LOT 553 1833/2 N-4 R4 Overdate 3 over 2 EF40 . Slightly glossy dark steel and olive brown. Five points sharper but there are too many tiny contact marks for the sharpness grade. A dull nick right of the lower lip and a fine crack outlining the lowest curl are the best identifying marks. E-MDS, Grellman state b, with die cracks through the date to stars 12 & 13 and 1-3, but the crack at stars 4-7 has not formed. The overdate feature is clear at the upper ball of the second 3.
