EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS
LOT 534 1831 N-3 R1 Small Letters AU58 . Frosty light brown with slightly darker steel brown on the highpoints. Lustrous with excellent eye appeal and a light rub on the highpoints. A small rim nick over star 9 and a speck of darker brown toning left of the date are the best identifying marks. Removed from a PCGS holder graded MS62BN (PCGS old green label #1678.62/7422242 included). MDS with lightly flowlined fields on both sides. A nice cent that comes with an equally nice provenance.

CHOICE 1831 N-4
LOT 535 1831 N-4 R3 Small Letters, PCGS graded AU53, CAC Approved . Very attractive frosty light to medium brown. Satiny mint luster covers the fields and protected areas and this cent has great eye appeal. Just a hint of friction on the highpoints and a few trivial marks. The notable marks are a spot of slightly darker brown toning on the end of the bust, a similar splash connecting stars 7 & 8, and a faint puff of reddish brown toning at star 5. E-MDS, Grellman state a. The obverse fields are smooth, just starting to show fine radial flowlines at the dentil tips, and the die is uncracked. The E in CENT is weak, as usual. A very nice example of this rather tough variety, and it comes with an important provenance. Our grade is EF40+, very close to EF45. The attribution and Twin Leaf Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. Certification Number 37000.53/30999057 Ex Willard C. Blaisdell 9/15/1976 (via Del Bland)-R. LOT 536 1831 N-5 R4 Small Letters VF20+ . Glossy medium steel brown. Smooth and nearly void of contact marks, close to VF25. A spot of reddish brown toning at the left point of star 13 and a tiny tick at the top of the nostril are the only notable marks. EDS with hard, slightly reflective fields on the obverse (the reverse is flowlined from use in an earlier marriage).
