 WRIGHT PLATE COIN

LOT 515 1829 N-4 R4 Large Letters VF25 . Significantly sharper from the standpoint of wear but the strike is weak in the usual places, especially on the lowest curl and upper part of the wreath. Recolored glossy steel brown and chocolate with reddish brown and tan in protected areas on the obverse. The surfaces are smooth and the fields on both sides are slightly reflective. The only significant mark is a small but obvious planchet flake or pit in the center of the cheek. LDS, Grellman state b. The crack through the R in AMERICA is clear and there is a rim cud from star 3 to star 6, strongest left of star 5. Graded VF30 net VF20 and tied for CC#1 honors in the Noyes census, his photo #28169. Reynolds says EF40 net VF35 and CC#6. This is the plate coin for the variety in John Wright’s The Cent Book, 1816-1839.

LOT 516 1829 N-5 R3 Small Letters VF30 . Glossy chocolate brown and steel with lighter brown in protected areas on the obverse. Flowline luster shows in protected areas on the reverse. The surfaces are smooth and there is not much wear on this cent. The strike is a bit weak at the top of the obverse and bottom of the wreath, as usual, but the surfaces are quite nice, consistent with a higher grade cent. The only notable mark is a minor planchet lamination under the right side of star 1. MDS, Grellman state c, with minor crumbling in the dentils at stars 3-6.

LOT 517 1829 N-6 R1 Large Letters, PCGS graded AU58 . Frosty light brown with slightly darker steel brown toning on the highest points of the devices. Sharply struck and nearly flawless with very light friction on the highpoints. A small, dull nick in the hair over the B in LIBERTY and a reddish spot near the hair below star 8 are the best identifying marks. E-MDS with faint radial die flowlines starting to appear from the dentil tips on both sides. The reverse is rotated 15 degrees clockwise relative to the normal head-to-foot die orientation. Our grade is AU50+ . The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. Certification Number 36919.58/14526592
