EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

LOT 501 1828 N-2 R2 EF45+ . Frosty light brown with slightly darker steel brown toning on the obverse highpoints. Sharp and attractive. The notable flaws are a small tick right of star 3, another under star 9, one more over the O in ONE, and a small area of microscopic roughness over the T in CENT. E-MDS, Grellman state b early. The line between the bases of the 8 & 2 touches the 8 but not the 2, but the fine crack through the top of the first T in STATES has not formed. Removed from an NGC holder graded AU58 (NGC label #456507-012 included).

LOT 497 1827 N-11 R1 PCGS graded AU58 . The obverse is frosty golden tan with steel brown toning on the highpoints; the reverse is mostly lustrous medium olive brown with an arc of golden tan on the left side. The fields and protected areas are lustrous on both sides and there is just a touch of friction on the highest points of the devices. A tick on the nose even with the bottom of the eye is the best identifying mark. Our grade is AU55. Certification Number 1651.58/30473404

LOT 498 1827 N-12 R5 PCGS graded VF25 . Rather glossy light olive brown. Smooth and attractive with just a few minor contact marks. A tiny chip over the bust tip and a light nick in the field before the eye are the only marks worthy of mention. MDS, Grellman state b, with a die crack up between the 1 & 8 through the bust and neck to the ear. Our grade is F15, solidly in the lower half of the condition census for this tough variety. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. Certification Number 36871.25/84705812 Ex Chris McCawley-Al Nelson Collection LOT 499 Lot of 45 Large Cents, 1827-1856 . Grades average G-VG. Some are sharper with defects but all have an easily readable date. Lot of 45 coins.

LOT 502 1828 N-3 R2 PCGS graded MS63 Brown . Frosty steel brown with sharp details and satiny surfaces. A problem-free cent except for an obvious pit under the first 8. There is no trace of verdigris in the spot. The reverse is flawless. EDS with traces of an inner circle visible in the dentils at OF-A and clear dentils around both sides. Our grade is net AU50. The attribution and Wachtel Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. Certification Number 36880.63/28736364

LOT 500 1828 N-1 R1 VF35 . Glossy medium brown and chocolate with a wisp of lighter golden tan right of the hair bun. Sharpness close to EF40 but there are some small marks including a collection of microscopic hairlines on the cheek and neck, a dull scratch under the chin, and a light vertical scratch down from the left end of the line under CENT. M-LDS, Grellman state b. The inner circle at MER is gone and there is crumbling in the dentils between stars 3 & 4.

LOT 503 1828 N-4 R4 F15 . Sharpness VF30 but very dark steel and olive brown with fine roughness covering the planchet. The highpoints are a lighter shade of steel brown and are a bit glossy. No verdigris and the only notable mark is a dull, light rim nick at the D in UNITED. MDS.
