CONDITION CENSUS 1824/2 N-5 OVERDATE
LOT 468 1824/2 N-5 R4 Overdate 4 over 2, PCGS AU Detail Damage . Frosty light chocolate brown and steel. The surfaces are satiny and smooth showing only light friction on the devices and hints of mint luster in protected areas. The notable defects are a planchet chip high on the cheekbone, a dull scratch in the field close to the chin, and five dull contact marks around ONE CENT, the strongest of these above the N in ONE. EDS. The overdate feature is clear and there is minor crumbling in the dentils at stars 3-5. Graded EF40 net VF35 and CC#3 in the Noyes census, his photo #27549. Our grade is net VF30. Clearly one of the finer examples of this tough overdate variety in spite of the marks, and it comes with a long, impressive provenance. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. Certification Number 36781.98/44293955 Ex Elliot Landau, New Netherlands Coin Co. #52, 12/13/1958:135-Doris E.
