CONDITION CENSUS 1818 N-5
LOT 410 1818 N-5 R3 AU55 . Beautiful glossy medium brown and light chocolate with a couple peeps of very faded mint red showing on the reverse. Frosty mint luster covers the fields and protected areas and this cent has great eye appeal. Looks mint state but there is a touch of friction on the highest points of the devices. The only marks are a tiny splash of reddish brown toning at the curl left of the ear, a thin horizontal nick on the cheek, and a couple ticks below star 3. M-LDS, Grellman state b late. The die cracks on the obverse are clear and most of the dentils on the obverse are still visible. A very nice cent, comparable to the finest known examples of the variety.

LOT 412 1818 N-7 R1 EF40+ . Glossy tan and light brown with darker steel brown toning on the highpoints. Lightly worn with trivial marks including a thin diagonal nick just right of the eye and a tiny vertical nick high on the neck. EDS, Grellman state b early, with hard, slightly reflective fields on both sides. The die cracks on the obverse are faint, especially the one connecting the 81 near their bases. The date and stars are normal, not “Twisted” as seen on a few of the earliest strikes. A very nice cent for the grade.
LOT 411 1818 N-6 R1 EF45 . The obverse is glossy dark steel brown with frosty light steel brown and tan in protected areas; the reverse is frosty tan with steel brown toning on the highpoints. Just a couple trivial marks including a tiny planchet flake right of the nostril, a tick on the chin, and a small prick at the right top of the second 8. The reverse is choice, a solid AU50. E-MDS, Grellman state a. The small lump inside the bottom of the C in AMERICA is clear and there are no die lapping lines around the end of the wreath stem.

LOT 413 1818 N-7 R1 AU55 . Lustrous medium steel brown. Sharp and quite attractive with mint state eye appeal, but there is a trace of friction on the highest points of the devices. Just a few trivial ticks including a small diagonal nick right of the mouth and a microscopic tick on the upper lip. EDS, Grellman state b. Similar to the preceding lot but the fields on both sides are covered with microscopic radial die flowlines and they are satiny, not reflective. Removed from a PCGS holder graded AU55 (PCGS label #1600.55/32533198 included).
