EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS
LOT 408 1818 N-3 R3 PCGS graded AU50 . Glossy steel brown and light chocolate. Mint frost shows in protected areas, particularly on the reverse, and this cent has very nice eye appeal. No roughness or verdigris, only tiny contact marks, none notable. E-MDS, Grellman state a. The spike up from the top of the coronet above the L (actually a point from a stray star) is strong, and there are die clashmarks at the throat. Our grade is EF40. Certification Number 1600.50/15520355
LOT 407 1818 N-2 R4 PCGS graded AU53, CAC Approved . Glossy olive brown and chocolate with traces of frosty lighter golden tan toning faded down from mint color in protected areas. The surfaces are smooth and this cent is very attractive, just lightly worn on the devices. No spots or stains, only trivial contact marks. A small pinprick over the left edge of the curl at the bottom of the neck can help identify this cent. E-MDS, Grellman state c, with a fine die crack through the top of UNITED ST, a fine crack connecting stars 4 & 5, and a light radial crack from the dentils to the top of the T in UNITED. An important example of this tough die variety, and it comes with a nice provenance. Our grade is VF35+. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. Certification Number 36604.53/44240178

SHARP 1818 N-4
LOT 409 1818 N-4 R4 F15 . Sharpness EF45 but lightly corroded with stronger corrosion at the bottom of the reverse. There are traces of crusty reddish verdigris on both sides, mostly at stars 3-5 and OF AMERICA. The details are sharp, one of the three sharpest examples known of the variety, and the eye appeal of the obverse is certainly decent. Dark grayish steel and olive brown. The only significant contact marks are some light scratches at stars 3 & 4 where an attempt was made to remove some of the reddish scale. LDS, Grellman state d early. The obverse fields are swollen and the radial crack through star 3 is strong. Graded EF45 net F15 and tied for CC#7 honors in the Noyes census, his photo #61896.
