EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS
LOT 377 1803 S-247 R3 “Mumps” Obverse, NGC VF Details, Burnished . Glossy dark olive brown and steel. Looks smooth and the eye appeal is very nice, but the obverse was lightly burnished to remove very fine roughness and the reverse is still covered with microscopic granularity. No marks or verdigris and the retoning is quite attractive. EDS without any die cracks. The “Mumps” break at the throat is bold. Our grade is VF30 sharpness net F15+ . The attribution is noted on the NGC label. 6703127-012
LOT 376 1802 S-237 R2 PCGS graded VF25 . Frosty chocolate brown with lighter steel brown toning on the devices. Smooth with just a few small marks including a dull nick over the 0 in the date. Nicely struck E-MDS, Breen state III, with die cracks on both sides. Our grade is VF20. (The holder is scuffed.). Certification Number 1470.25/50027806

LOT 378 1816 N-1 R4 VG10 . Slightly glossy dark steel brown and olive. Mostly smooth but there are traces of microscopic roughness and verdigris, mostly at the bottom of the reverse. MDS, Grellman state c, with rim cuds on the right side of the obverse but no die cracks on the reverse.

LOT 380 1816 N-3 R4 VF25 . Slightly sharper with fine roughness on the left side of the reverse. Otherwise smooth with trivial marks and light wear. No verdigris. A tiny scratch left of the date and a shallow planchet void over star 1 are the notable marks. MDS.
LOT 379 1816 N-2 R1 MS60 . Very attractive glossy light olive and steel. Smooth with trivial marks. M-LDS, Grellman state c, with a small rim cud between stars 11 & 12 in addition to the earlier rim cud from star 8 nearly to star 11. Most likely from the Randall Hoard of mint state cents discovered following the US Civil War.
