LOT 640 1857 N-1 R1 Large Date VF35+. Slightly sharper with a few small nicks on the obverse, none significant. A spot of reddish toning in the hair left of the ear is the best identifying mark. Glossy light to medium brown. MDS, die state b. The die lines over NI in UNITED are gone but the top of the stray 1 in the dentils below the left side of the 8 is still visible.

LOT 644 1857 N-4 R1 Small Date EF40. Frosty medium brown and steel. Nearly flawless; the only notable marks are two tiny ticks on the rim over the E in STATES. MDS, die state b. Very nice for the grade.

LOT 645 Pair of 1857 Cents. Includes N-1 R1 Large Date EDS (a) VF25, and N-4 R1 Small Date MDS (b) EF40 net VF35 for a short scratch at star 1. Both are attractive with smooth surfaces and glossy brown and light chocolate toning. Lot of 2 coins.

LOT 641 Trio of 1857 Large Cents. Includes N-1 R1 Large Date LDS VG7 net Fair-2 for damage, N-4 R1 LDS F12 net VG7 for fine roughness, and N-4 R1 LDS VG7 net AG3 for contact marks. All have a clear date with mostly glossy brown and olive toning. Lot of 3 coins.

LOT 646 Pair of 1857 N-1 R1 Large Date Cents. The first is EF40 sharpness net F15 for rim dents and recoloring; the second is EF40 sharpness net VF20 for cleaning and poor retoning. Both are in the MDS (b) with smooth surfaces. Lot of 2 coins

LOT 642 1857 N-4 R1 Small Date EF40+. Slightly sharper but there are a couple microscopic scratches on the reverse. None is visible to the unaided eye and the toning is a very attractive glossy chocolate brown with frosty light brown in protected areas. MDS, die state b. The die line from star 1 is gone but the short point down from the inner hair bun is visible.

LOT 643 1857 N-4 R1 Small Date EF40. Five points sharper with a few minor contact marks including a small, well-hidden mark at the right top of the 5. Attractive glossy brown and light chocolate with frost in protected areas. MDS, die state b.
