FRED BORCHERDT’S HALL OF FAME COLLECTION 1793-1814 CENTS

LOT 174 1797 S-142 R5+ VG10 . Slightly sharper but there are some contact marks including a few nicks on the portrait and a rim bruise off the chin. Glossy light to medium chocolate brown with lighter brown on the devices. No roughness or verdigris; nice for the grade in spite of the few marks. EDS, Breen state I, without any trace of die rust on the obverse. Weakly struck at OF as often seen on this variety. Graded VG10 and tied for CC#9 in the Bland census. Noyes says F15 net VG10 and tied for CC#5, his photo #27514. Comes with a nice provenance.

LOT 175 1797 S-143 R5 Stemless Wreath F15 . Sharpness VF35 but the surfaces are not perfectly smooth. No verdigris and just trivial contact marks including a collection of dull ticks along the left edge of the lower curls. Mostly glossy medium chocolate brown. EDS, Breen state I, with fine die clashmarks on the obverse, clearest below the L. The Stemless Wreath feature is bold. Graded VF35 net F15 and tied for CC#10 in the Bland census. Noyes says VF35 net F12 and tied for CC#11, his photo #34149.
