EXTREMELY RARE 1797 NC-1

LOT 176 1797 NC-1 R6+ Reverse of 1796 G5 . Sharpness VF25 but covered with light to moderate corrosion, strongest on the obverse. There are traces of hard verdigris on both sides but the date and legends are complete and clear. Dark olive brown and steel with lighter olive brown on the reverse. The only contact mark is a small, light rim bruise at the end of the bust. EDS, Breen state I. The crack at ERT is clear. Thirteen examples of this variety are known, and most of those have significant defects, mostly roughness and corrosion. In our opinion this piece is tied for CC#5 based on a photo comparison and is the second sharpest among this small group.
