LOT 842 1848 N-17 R1 Repunched Date EF40. Sharpness close to mint state but lightly whizzed and recolored glossy light to medium brown and light olive with lighter reddish brown in some protected areas on the reverse. No marks but the toning on the reverse is not very attractive. MDS, die state b. Repunching is still visible on the 4 but not on the other 3 digits.

LOT 843 1848 N-18 R4+ VF25. Ten points sharper with a dull nick at the 84 and extremely faint granularity in the fields and protected areas. Otherwise just a few tiny ticks. No verdigris, and the surfaces look perfectly smooth to the unaided eye. Glossy chocolate brown with lighter brown on the highpoints. MDS, die state b. The tops of the C & E in CENT are connected by crumbling but the obverse is uncracked.
LOT 846 1848 N-26 R5 VF20. Sharpness EF40 but there are fine vertical scratches on the cheek and neck. Mostly smooth but there is fine roughness near the dentils at stars 7-11 and on the rim off the end of the wreath stem. Traces of verdigris can be found in a few protected areas. Recolored mostly glossy brown and chocolate. Sharply detailed and it looks better than it might sound--but it is far from perfect. MDS, die state b. The diagonal die lines at ONE and CENT no longer connect.

LOT 847 1848 N-28 R1 VF30. Glossy light to medium brown with light olive overtones on the reverse. Slightly sharper with some small nicks on the obverse including a dull one on the middle of the nose. MDS, die state b, with a dull die line connecting the O in OF to the adjacent S.
LOT 844 1848 N-18 R4+ F12. Sharpness VF30 with attractive glossy light olive toning, but there are numerous light scratches on the obverse plus some dull nicks on the portrait and in the field before the nose. A dull nick at the left top of the ear is a good identifying mark. M-LDS, die state c, with a die crack from the dentils over star 11 into the field halfway to the main curl.
