Fred 2 Book

LOT 827 1847 N-20 R3 AU55. Choice frosty medium brown and light chocolate. Looks mint state but there is a hint of friction on the very highest points of the devices. A small planchet flake under the N in CENT is the best identifying mark. MDS with fine radial die flowlines in the fields. A very nice cent with a provenance nearly a century long.

LOT 831 1847 N-29 R3 EF40. Five points sharper with a few light contact marks on the cheek and neck and a thin nick under star 11. Frosty tan in the fields with glossy darker steel brown toning on the highpoints. LDS, die state d, with fine die cracks on the reverse.

LOT 832 1847 N-36 R5+ F15+. Slightly sharper with some small nicks scattered over the obverse. Glossy medium brown and light chocolate. The reverse is a solid VF20 and all the attribution points are clear. A decent example of this tough die variety.

LOT 828 1847 N-23 R5 VF20. Five points sharper but there is a shallow scrape on the upper edge of the bust, and it is not visible to the unaided eye. Otherwise just minor contact marks. Glossy olive brown and steel. MDS, die state c early, with die cracks on the reverse but no rim cuds.

LOT 833 1847 N-37 R1 EF40. Glossy tan and light brown with medium brown on the highpoints. Mint frost shows in the fields and protected areas and the eye appeal of this cent is excellent. Close to EF45 but there are some light contact marks on the obverse, mostly on the cheek and jaw. None of the marks is significant. EDS. The lines and points around ONE CENT are sharp.

LOT 829 1847 N-24/25/9 R1 AU55. Lustrous light olive with subtle hints of very faded mint color in a few protected areas. This cent has mint state eye appeal but there is a hint of rub on the very highest points of the devices. Very sharply struck EDS, die state a, with strong die lines in the fields around the date and lower part of the portrait. A great die state. (This is Newcomb’s #24.)

LOT 834 1847 N-39 R3- VF35. Five points sharper with a dull rim nick over the first A in AMERICA. Otherwise quite nice with smooth surfaces and excellent eye appeal. Glossy medium brown and light olive with mint frost in protected areas. A small spot of reddish brown toning at the tip of the coronet is a good identifying mark. E-MDS, die state a late. The fine die line through the O in ONE is faint but visible

LOT 830 1847 N-24/25/9 R1 EF45. Sharpness very close to mint state but there are small stains of dark olive on both sides. Otherwise frosty tan and light brown with lustrous fields. A sharp cent but the stains are an obvious distraction. EDS, die state a, with strong die lines in the fields on the lower part of the obverse. (This is Newcomb’s #24.)
