EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS
LOT 794 1845 N-2 R1 VF35. Sharpness EF45 with trivial marks and nice eye appeal, but there is an area of extremely faint roughness at stars 10-12. May be microscopic planchet chips. The rest of the planchet is quite smooth and the toning is an attractive glossy chocolate and medium olive brown. Sharply struck EDS, die state a. The lump over the N in ONE is clear.

LOT 797 1845 N-7 R5- Repunched 84 EF40+. Sharpness AU50 but there are small contact marks scattered over both sides, mostly on the obverse. None of the marks is distracting but there are too many for the sharpness grade. A tiny diagonal scratch left of the ear lobe and a small rim nick off the end of the wreath ribbon are good identifying marks. Frosty light brown with a couple peeps of mint red at the date. EDS, die state a, with an uncracked reverse. The undertype at the 84 is sharp and obvious. Not perfect but still CC#9 for the variety in the Grellman census.

LOT 795 1845 N-2 R1 AU58. A sharp, nearly flawless mint state cent that was dipped long ago, now naturally retoned lustrous bluish steel and olive with lighter steel brown in protected areas. The surfaces are satiny and this cent has nice eye appeal. MDS, die state b. The lump over the N in ONE is gone but traces of the fine die lines under the second A in AMERICA are still visible.

LOT 798 1845 N-9 R2 EF45. Frosty light chocolate brown with slightly lighter brown in the fields and protected areas on the obverse. Smooth with trivial ticks on the face and neck and a couple more over star 12. MDS, die state b, with die cracks on the reverse.
Ex John G. Fettinger-Fred H. Borcherdt Collection
LOT 796 1845 N-6 R2 AU50. Sharpness very close to mint state but lightly cleaned and retoned olive and steel brown with very faded reddish steel in protected areas. There are faint hairlines visible from the earlier cleaning but all the details are sharp. LDS, die state d. The die clashmarks are no longer present on the obverse and there are fine die cracks on both sides.
LOT 799 1845 N-9 R2 VF20. Ten points sharper with a vertical scratch up from star 1 and some small nicks on the portrait. Glossy medium brown and steel. LDS, die state c, with a small but clearly defined rim cud under the end of the wreath ribbon.
