EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

 RARE EARLY STATE 1844 N-1

LOT 784 1844 N-1 R1 Repunched 18 AU50. Glossy medium brown with frosty golden tan in the protected areas. Smooth with light wear on the highpoints and trivial marks. A tiny diagonal nick right of the main curl and a barely visible rim bruise at the D in UNITED are the best identifying marks. Very rare EDS, die state a, with slightly reflective fields and no die cracks or rim cuds. The fine repunching at the left bottom of the 18 is clear.

LOT 785 1844 N-1 R1 Repunched 18 EF40. Glossy light olive and medium brown with chocolate on the highpoints. Smooth with trivial marks, just lightly worn. A choice cent for the grade. E-MDS, die state c, with a series of tiny rim cuds from star 1 to star 13.

LOT 786 1844/81 N-2 R2 44 over Inverted 18 VF35. Five points sharper with some light contact marks on both sides including a tick on the nostril and a scuff of microscopic hairline scratches on the chin. Attractive glossy medium brown and light chocolate with frost in protected areas. Nicely struck E-MDS, die state b. The earlier points on the reverse are gone but the blundered date feature (44/81) is bold. A nice example of this popular “Redbook” variety.

LOT 787 Quartet of 1844 Cents. Includes N-2 R2 44/81 VG8, N-3 R2 E-MDS F15, N-3 R2 MDS G6, and N-3 R2 M-LDS VF30+. All are sharper with defects. Lot of 4 coins
