LOT 696 1855 N-1 R2+ Upright 55 MS60. A sharp, attractive cent but the obverse may have been very lightly cleaned long ago. Frosty medium brown with underlying very mellowed red in the obverse fields. The surfaces are lustrous and the only marks are a light nick on the rim just left of the date and a spot of darker toning right of star 7. The reverse is choice. MDS, die state b. The fields are lightly flowlined but the point to the left from the lower left of the 8 is clear. Struck with the reverse rotated 40 degrees clockwise. Comes with a nice provenance.

LOT 699 1855 N-4 R1 Upright 55 AU58. Glossy light to medium brown with frosty luster covering the fields and protected areas on both sides. Just the lightest touch of rub on the highpoints from mint state. The only marks are small wisps of darker olive toning above and below star 4. Rare LDS, die state c, with a rim cud break over the E in STATES. The cud is strong on this example, clearly outlined on both ends. Not in the overall condition census for the variety but tied for CC#8 of those known with the single rim cud.

LOT 700 1855 N-4 R1 Upright 55 EF40. Glossy medium brown. Slightly sharper with very nice eye appeal, but there are some nicks on the obverse and a spot of darker toning just left of the earlobe. Most of the nicks are on the cheek or in the field right of the main curl. None of the marks is significant but there are too many for this level of sharpness. LDS, die state f, with four rim cud breaks at STATES, and each cud break is clearly defined.
