EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS
LOT 692 1854 N-25 R3 Stray 4 in Hair EF45. Slightly sharper but there is a very light rim bruise at ED in UNITED. Otherwise quite nice with attractive glossy brown and light chocolate toning. Mint frost shows in the fields and protected areas. M-LDS, die state b, with flowlined fields and dull die clashmarks on both sides. The serif of the stray 4 hanging down from the curl right of the 4 is weak but visible.

EARLY STATE N-27
LOT 693 1854 N-27 R3 MS62. Lustrous light olive and bluish steel brown with 10% of the planchet showing mint red. This cent has great eye appeal and it looks choice, but there are a few small contact marks on the obverse. The notable defects are a shallow low spot on the neck up to the bottom of the jawline, a few tiny nicks over the right side of the eye, a pair of thin nicks near star 2, and a small rim nick right of star 8. None of these marks catch your eye. EDS, die state a. The small dash over the 8 is clear and the short spur at the top of the inner hair bun has not formed. Fine mostly vertical die polishing lines cover the fields on the reverse. A nice example of a rare die state. Tied for CC#5 of the variety in the Grellman census.

LOT 694 1854 N-28 R5- F15. Five points sharper with a few small marks scattered over the obverse and a small patch of extremely fine roughness over star 3. There are two light scratches on the face, but you need a glass to see them. Glossy light brown with darker steel brown toning on the highpoints. MDS, die state b. The vertical die lines to the O in ONE and C in CENT are no longer visible.
LOT 695 1854 N-29 R3 AU55. Frosty light to medium brown with light chocolate on the highpoints. Sharply struck with satiny fields and great eye appeal for the grade. Just a touch of friction from mint state. The only marks are a few small spots of darker olive brown toning around stars 5-6. E-MDS, die state b, with a doubled set of die clashmarks.
