CONDITION CENSUS N-25 Ex Thomas D. Reynolds 11/7/1987-Wesley A. Rasmussen, McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Superior 2/8/1998:461-R. S. “Robbie” Brown, Jr., McCawley & Grellman Auctions/ Superior 6/2/2002:1350-Chris McCawley 12/2003-Daniel W. Holmes, Jr., McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Goldbergs 1/30/2011:613-Fred H. Borcherdt Collection (includes the Holmes collection envelope) LOT 688 1854 N-22 R3+ MS60+. Lustrous light bluish steel brown with generous traces of mellowed mint red remaining, mostly on the obverse. Choice except for a shallow dig nestled between the N & E in ONE. M-LDS, die state b. The dash from the right top of the 4 is gone and the fields are flowlined. A shallow low spot covers most of the cheek and extends slightly down into the neck. The hair at the ear is not affected but the earlobe is weakened a bit by the low spot. This cent has great eye appeal for the grade. Tied for CC#10 in the Grellman census. Comes with a very nice provenance.

LOT 689 1854 N-23 R2 AU58. Frosty golden brown with light chocolate brown toning on the highpoints. A very light hairline scratch over star 12 and a tiny splash of reddish chocolate toning inside the top of the first S in STATES are the only notable marks. Just the slightest hint of friction on the highest points from mint state. E-MDS, die state a late. The fine die line up from star 11 is faint but remains visible; the earlier die lines over the N and ED in UNITED are gone.

Ex Thomas D. Reynolds 3/1996-Harry W. Colborn, McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Superior 5/2005:1964 (via Don Valenziano)-Phyllis Thompson, McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Goldbergs 1/31/2010:765-Fred H. Borcherdt Collection

LOT 690 1854 N-24 R3 MS60. Very attractive lustrous light bluish steel brown with peeps of very faded mint red on both sides. The surfaces are satiny and this cent has great eye appeal for the grade. A light vertical nick close before the chin is the only notable mark. LDS, die state b, with a die crack at MER. Struck with the obverse slightly misaligned to K-3.

LOT 691 1854 N-25 R3 Stray 4 in Hair, PCGS graded MS64 Red & Brown, CAC Approved. Lustrous mint red mellowing to bluish steel brown with at least 25% of the underlying mint color remaining on both sides. A choice cent with great eye appeal and virtually flawless surfaces. The only notable defects are a very shallow low spot on the neck and a tiny struck-through line on the bust over the 8 (both as struck and virtually invisible to the unaided eye). E-MDS, die state b early. The fields are covered with fine radial flowlines and dull die clashmarks show on both sides. The crossbar and serif of a badly misplaced 4 reach down from the curl above the right side of the normal 4. Our grade is MS64, tied for CC#5 in the Grellman census. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. 406128.64/81114857
