Fred 2 Book

LOT 630 1853 N-10 R1 Repunched 18 MS63+. Frosty mint red fading to steel brown on the devices with more than a third of the original mint color remaining. Just a few trivial defects including a couple tiny specks of darker toning in the field before the face and another at the bottom of the neck. Traces of an old fingerprint can be found at star 10. MDS, die state b. The earlier fine die lines are gone but the repunching at the 18 remains visible.

Ex Thomas L. Elder 1913:956 (for 45 cents)-unknown-Fred H. Borcherdt Collection (includes a very old collection envelope)

LOT 632 1853 N-12 R1+ MS62. Lustrous medium steel brown with traces of mint red remaining on both sides, especially on the reverse. Satiny mint frost covers this cent and it has excellent eye appeal. The only marks are a very faint scuff over star 3 and a tiny tick right of star 4. Nicely struck MDS, die state b. A tiny lump has formed on the left side of the T in LIBERTY but the line inside the N in ONE is still visible. Tied for CC#6 in the Grellman census.

LOT 631 1853 N-11 R2- AU58. Frosty light brown and steel. A sharp mint state cent that has very nice eye appeal, but there are a few light contact marks. The notable marks are a few microscopic ticks off the upper left point of star 7, a dull but very light nick close over the head, and a couple of minor rim nicks at star 12. These marks do not catch your eye and the reverse is void of defects. E-MDS, die state a late. The fields are just starting to show microscopic die flowlines and the fine line through star 6 is visible. A nice cent, very close to mint state.

 CHOICE RED & BROWN N-13

LOT 633 1853 N-13 R1 Repunched 1 MS63+. Lustrous mint red fading to light steel brown with nearly half the mint color remaining on both sides. A choice cent with trivial marks including a couple microscopic specks of carbon on the obverse and a tiny struck-through line close under the nostril (as struck). M-LDS, die state b. The repunching at the base of the 1 is visible but the early points from the E in CENT are gone. A very nice example of a common die variety.
