EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

LOT 621 1853 N-2 R3 MS60. Lustrous light steel brown with subtle overtones of light bluish steel and a few peeps of faded mint color on the reverse. The surfaces are satiny and this cent has very nice eye appeal. The only marks are two dull, barely visible rim nicks at stars 12 & 13 and a few tiny specks of darker toning around star 12. MDS, die state b. The die line at the throat is gone. Tied for CC#7 in the Grellman census.

LOT 619 1853 N-1 R3 MS60+. Lustrous light bluish steel brown with 10% of the mint red remaining on the reverse. The surfaces are satiny and this cent has very nice eye appeal. The only notable mark is a dull rim nick left of star 2. The reverse is choice. MDS, die state b. The die lines at UNITE are gone and the fields are slightly rough from fine die flowlines. Tied for CC#10 in the Grellman census.

LOT 622 1853 N-3 R1 Repunched 185 MS60. Lustrous mint red fading to light olive and steel brown with mint color covering 40% of the obverse and 15% of the reverse. The mint color on the obverse is bright but the red is faded on the reverse. This would be a choice Red & Brown cent if not for an area of darker toning and microscopic carbon at stars 1-3. The reverse is choice in every respect. MDS, die state b. The repunching at the 185 is gone and the lump under the 5 is dull but visible.

LOT 620 1853 N-1 R3 EF40. Slightly sharper but there is a shallow depression on the rim at star 10 and an opposing one at ER in AMERICA, probably from a pinch on the rim. Otherwise smooth and choice with light wear and great eye appeal for the grade. Glossy medium brown and light chocolate. LDS, die state c, with heavily flowlined fields and swelling around the date and many stars.

 EQUAL FINEST EARLY STATE N-4

LOT 623 1853/3 N-4 R3+ Repunched 3 AU55. Very attractive glossy light brown blending to olive brown in protected areas. Smooth and very sharply struck with superior eye appeal. Looks mint state but there is a hint of friction on the highest points of the devices. Just a few small marks including a tiny struck-through line on the left side of the 8 (as struck) and a small pinprick left of the date. Very early die state (VEDS), die state a early. The fields on both sides are slightly reflective and the repunching over the 3 is sharp. Tied for finest known honors for the die state with one other VEDS example in the Grellman census.
