EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

 TERMINAL STATE N-20

LOT 614 1852 N-20 R3+ F12+. Sharpness VF20 or slightly better but there is a dull, rather deep gouge down from the lower junction of the C & E in CENT. Otherwise this cent is quite nice with smooth, choice surfaces and attractive medium brown toning. LDS, die state c, with two clearly defined rim cuds on the obverse: one at star 8 and another at star 11. Less than two dozen are known in this terminal die state.

Ex Jules Reiver (privately)-Fred H. Borcherdt Collection (includes the Reiver collection envelope)

 SECOND FINEST EARLY STATE

LOT 615 1852 N-21 R3+ AU55+. A sharp mint state cent but there is a small nick on the end of the nose and a spot of dark reddish toning on the jawline over the throat. Frosty light to medium brown with luster in the fields and protected areas. Scarce EDS, die state a, with smooth fields and an uncracked obverse. Second finest of the early, uncracked die state in the Grellman census.

Ex S. M. Koeppel 9/18/1946-R. E. “Ted” Naftzger, Jr. (via William C. Noyes)-Fred H. Borcherdt Collection (includes the Naftzger collection envelope)
