Fred 2 Book
EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS
LOT 864 1851 N-18 R1 VF35+. Sharpness EF45 but there are a few very light scratches on the cheek and neck. Otherwise choice with light friction on the devices and very nice eye appeal. Glossy light brown with frost in the fields and protected areas. MDS, die state b. The fields are lightly flowlined and the points down from the diagonals of the N’s in ONE CENT are clear.
LOT 863 1851 N-15 R3 AU58. A lustrous mint state cent that has a spot of light reddish tan toning under the I in LIBERTY, and the spot catches your eye. Otherwise the toning is an attractive bluish steel and light olive with subtle hints of very faded red in a few protected areas. Possibly dipped and retoned long ago but the surfaces are satiny and the eye appeal is very nice. LDS, die state b. The earlier point from the throat is gone and the points from the main curl over the inner curl are weak.

RARE EARLY STATE N-19
LOT 865 1851 N-19 R3 Second 1 Repunched F12. Sharpness VF20 with some contact marks, mostly on the rims. A dull nick over star 11 and another on the rim below star 13 are good identifying marks. Glossy medium brown and light chocolate with reddish brown in protected areas on the reverse. EDS, die state a late, with the faintest trace of a fine die crack from the dentils through star 4. The “crack” actually appears to be a very fine die line through the lower part of the star, but at this grade it is difficult to be sure. A high-grade uncracked example is unknown. The repunching on the second 1 is clear.

LOT 866 1851 N-22 R4+ EF40+. Slightly sharper but there is a thin nick on the edge right of star 11 and a tiny prick near the hair under star 7. Otherwise essentially flawless with light friction on the devices and very nice eye appeal. Frosty light brown and olive. MDS, die state b. The fields are flowlined but the diagonal die lines from the main curl are still visible.
LOT 867 1851 N-30 R2 AU55. Frosty golden tan and light olive. The fields and protected areas are lustrous and this cent has mint state eye appeal. The only notable marks are a faint very light scratch under the earlobe and a tiny mark on the rim under the 51. MDS, die state b. The point from the jaw is gone but the points up from ENT are still visible.
