EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS
DOUBLE PROFILE 1835 N-12
yes LOT 330 1835 N-12 R4 Head of 1834 VF20 . Five points sharper with a rim bruise over star 5 and at the opposing rim under the end of the wreath stem. Otherwise quite nice with smooth surfaces and excellent eye appeal. Glossy light to medium brown blending to medium chocolate in protected areas. E-MDS, Grellman state a, before the radial crack near star 9. There is a clear double profile from the forehead down to the chin with similar doubling on stars 3-7 and 11-13 (caused by die shift or “machine doubling”). Struck with the reverse rotated 35 degrees clockwise.

EQUAL FINEST TERMINAL STATE 1835 N-12
yes LOT 331 1835 N-12 R4 Head of 1834 F15+ . Slightly sharper but the toning is uneven with a glossy mix of light brown, reddish chocolate, and darker olive brown. Otherwise the surfaces are smooth with small contact marks and no corrosion. A light scratch between stars 12 & 13, a tiny dig on a leaf below the I in UNITED, and another at the tip of the leaf below ER in AMERICA are the only notable marks. None of the marks is at all distracting. Rare TDS, Grellman state d, with a strong triangular cud break from above star 8 to star 9. Called VF25 net F12 and tied for CC#3 of those known in the terminal die state by Noyes, his photo #21343. However when he graded it for the 1982 EAC sale he called it F15 and a “very attractive cent.” We see this piece as a high-end F15 and at least equal to the pair of net F15 pieces in the Noyes census. Reynolds agrees this is the finest example of the die state by a small margin. Struck with the reverse rotated 40 degrees clockwise. A great example of this rare die state, and it comes with a nice provenance.
