LOT 315 1831 N-12 R-3+ Large Letters PCGS AU58 CAC Approved . Deep olive and bluish steel with traces of very faded red in some protected areas. There is also iridescent tone highlights on the obverse when viewed under a lamp. There are a few trivial nicks, including one behind the nose and one in front of it. MDS(d). yes LOT 316 1831 N-12.5 R7 (as a die state) VF30 . Five points sharper with very nice eye appeal, but there is a fresh scratch between stars 7 & 8. Glossy light brown and chocolate with frosty golden tan in protected areas. Extremely rare M-LDS, Grellman state e, with a slightly raised retained cud break right of the date. The cud is clearly raised on its left end. The example of this die state in the Dan Holmes collection, a recolored G4, brought $310.50 in his 5/30/2010 sale (M&G Auctions/Goldbergs, lot 362). A piece for the die state specialist.

LOT 317 1831 N-12/1 R2 G4 . Glossy steel brown and light chocolate blending to olive brown in protected areas. Smooth with minor marks, just worn. A light rim bruise below the 3 is the only notable mark. M-LDS, Grellman state f, with a well-defined cud break connecting two points of star 13 to the rim.
