LOT 184 1797 S-120b R2 Reverse of 1796 with Gripped Edge F15 . Glossy light to medium chocolate with splashes of reddish brown on the reverse. The surfaces are smooth except for shallow verdigris in the reddish areas on the reverse. Just a few light marks including a diagonal scratch in the field below the hair ribbon. M-LDS, Breen state V, with crumbling along the profile and a die crack at LIBERTY. The beads and grips on the edge are clear.
S-122 WITH CUD
yes LOT 185 1797 S-122 R5+ G5 . Mostly glossy chocolate and olive brown; possibly retoned long ago. The surfaces are smooth with a few exceptions including several shallow pitmarks in the right obverse field and in the left center of the reverse. No verdigris, and the only contact marks are a few faint hairline scratches at the date. The date is clear and the legends are complete except for CENT, which is faint at best. Extremely rare LDS, Breen state V, with a raised retained cud break connecting M to the rim above. Ex Albany Coin Shop (Georgia) 12/1970-John D. LOT 187 1797 S-130 R2 VG8 . Sharpness F15 with fine roughness on both sides. No verdigris and the toning is a mostly glossy medium olive brown with lighter brown highpoints. The only significant mark is a dull pinch on the rim at S-O. M-LDS. The date and legends are complete and clear.
LOT 186 1797 S-128 R3 M over E in AMERICA VF20 . Slightly sharper with very nice eye appeal but there are a few too many minor marks on the obverse for the higher grade. The notable marks are a thin diagonal nick below the left corner of the eye, a shallow flake or pit in the hair close to the curl at the neck, two more in the field before the neck, and a patch of faint hairline scratches in the field off the nose. Glossy medium chocolate with slightly lighter steel brown on the devices. MDS, Breen state VI, with die cracks on the obverse. The M over E feature is clear.
