EARLY AMERICAN COPPER SOCIETY AUCTION 2025

LOT 143 1794 S-50 R5 VG7+ . Sharpness near F12 but there are small pits and areas of roughness on both sides. An obvious larger pit between the tops of the E & R in LIBERTY and a patch of minor pitting left of the lower curls are the most-obvious defects. No verdigris but there are some small contact marks, especially at the wreath ribbon. The obverse is sharper than the reverse, as always on well-circulated examples of the variety. Medium steel brown with reddish chocolate in protected areas on both sides, especially on the reverse. The date is clear and the legends are nearly complete. MDS. The shoulder loop above the 79 is partial thanks to die polishing but the obverse is uncracked.

LOT 146 1794 S-52 R-6 PCGS F Details (Edge Repaired) . Pleasing tan and olive brown surfaces with scattered trivial marks and abasions consistent with the grade. Sharp details other than the right reverse which was unevenly struck. Sold in an NCS VG Details holder in the Jules Reiver collection that noted “Mount Removed”, which likely contributed to the “Edge Repaired” distinction by PCGS. Noyes graded this VG7 and CC#15, his photo #26849. Our grade is VG7. 35618.98/47951243

LOT 144 1794 S-51 R5- VG8 . Sharpness F15, sharper on the obverse than the reverse as usual, but covered with fine granularity and there are some scratches on the obverse. No verdigris. Recolored dark olive brown with lighter brown in a few protected areas on the reverse. The obverse is significantly nicer than the reverse. The date is strong and the legends are complete. EDS.

LOT 145 1794 S-51 R5- PCGS graded Good-6 . Rather glossy medium steel brown on the devices blending to dark olive brown and steel in protected areas. The contrast in the toning accents the devices and adds to the eye appeal. Looks smooth to the unaided eye but a glass reveals microscopic roughness in the fields and protected areas. No verdigris and the best identifying mark is a small, light rim bruise off the end of the wreath stem. The obverse is stronger than the reverse, as always on this variety due to the lack of a protective rim on the reverse. The date and LIBERTY are clear but much of the legend outside the wreath is weak or missing. EDS with an uncracked obverse. Our grade is G5. 35615.06/38717202

LOT 147 1794 S-53 R-6 G5 . F12 sharpness but covered with fine roughness and there are several old, dull scratches on the portrait’s face, shoulder, and hair. Attractive glossy medium chocolate brown with full date and legends. Noyes grades this F12 net G5 and TCC#14-16. Our grade is F12 net G5.
