EARLY AMERICAN COPPER SOCIETY AUCTION 2025

LOT 135 1794 S-39 R6 PCGS VG Detail, Tooled . Rather dull steel and chocolate brown. Very fine porosity covers the planchet, strongest in the fields and protected areas. There are a few faint scratches hidden in the toning on the portrait, but there is a stronger scratch at ST with moderate scratches inside the wreath. All the scratches are old and blended into the toning. No verdigris. The bottom of the date is weak but the upper two-thirds is clear. Struck with the obverse slightly misaligned to the bottom (which accounts for the weakness at the base of the date). The legends outside the wreath are mostly clear, even strong on the lower half. E-MDS with obvious swelling inside the wreath that severely weakens those details. Our grade is G6+ sharpness net G4. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. 35582.98/34995019

LOT 137 1794 S-41 R3 VF30 . Attractive glossy medium brown and light chocolate. Smooth with minor marks including a nick in the hair right of the cap, a very fine planchet lamination through the top of the cap to the E in LIBERTY (as struck), and a dull nick at the top of the N in ONE. MDS, Breen state V, with radial die cracks at the D in UNITED and A in STATES. Struck with the reverse rotated 15 degrees CCW. Removed from a PCGS holder graded VF35 (PCGS label #35588.35/20716434 included, and it shows the attribution).

LOT 138 1794 S-42 R4 NGC VF Details, Corrosion . Mostly glossy olive brown and steel. Very fine roughness shows in the fields and protected areas, strongest around the date and bottom of the reverse. Light scratches are hidden in the toning on both sides and there is a pit in the field at the forehead and a couple more in the hair at the shoulder. A bit softly struck at the bottom of the obverse and top of the reverse, stronger elsewhere (as usual). Our grade is VF20+ sharpness net VG10+. The Carlyle Luer Collection provenance is noted on the NGC label. 4241683-016

LOT 136 1794 S-40 R5+ F15 . Sharpness EF40 but covered with fine to moderate roughness under slightly glossy reddish dark chocolate brown toning. Traces of greenish patina can be found in protected areas but you need a glass to see any of it. There are a few small planchet fissures on the bust tip and area below (as struck) plus a rim nick over the right side of the F in OF. Has the look of a cent that saw very little time in circulation before being lost in soil or some other reactive environment. Nicely struck with the obverse die slightly misaligned to K-4.5. M-LDS, Breen state IV, with die cracks on the reverse and minor swelling at CE in CENT. Struck with the reverse rotated 20 degrees CCW. Graded net F15 by Del Bland and CC#10 in his census. Noyes says VF35 net F12 and tied for CC#8, his photo #37229. Comes with a very nice provenance.
