EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS
LOT 130 1794 S-35 R5 AG3 . A point or two sharper but covered with uniform moderate granularity. No marks or verdigris. The date is faint at best but most of the legends are readable, although nothing is strong. MDS, Breen state VI, with die cracks on the obverse. Struck with the reverse rotated 45 degrees clockwise.
LOT 131 1794 S-36 R5 G6+ . Several points sharper with minor roughness in the fields and protected areas while the highpoints are smooth. No notable marks or verdigris. Lightly cleaned, now nicely retoned a mostly glossy dark olive brown and steel. EDS, before any die cracks. The date and legends are complete and clear. Graded VG8 net G5 by Noyes, his photo #63209. Close to VG7 in our opinion (Stack’s said VG10).

LOT 132 1794 S-37 R-6+ G5 . Several points sharper but there are a half dozen strong nicks on the obverse and a few more on the reverse, all very old and blended into the natural toning. Most of the planchet shows extremely fine roughness but the highpoints are smooth. The only verdigris is a small patch of waxy greenish crud at the L in LIBERTY. Slightly glossy medium chocolate brown with lighter brown toning on the devices. The date and legends are complete and easily readable. Graded VG10 net G5 and tied for CC#11 in the Noyes census, his photo #25032. Bland says VG7 net G5 and CC#11. An acceptable example of the “Key” Sheldon variety amoung the 1794 cents, and it comes with a very nice provenance that goes back over 100 years. Ex; George C. Carleton, Thomas L. LOT 133 1794 S-38 R5 G6 . A few points sharper, some areas even better, but there are numerous rim dents on both sides, none strong but far too many to ignore. Otherwise smooth with just a few marks including two fine scratches intersecting over NE in ONE. Attractive glossy steel brown and chocolate toning. The date is easily readable and the legends are relatively strong except for those at the very top of the reverse.
LOT 134 1794 S-38 R-5 AG3 . A few points sharper with granularity across the fields and devices of both sides. Decent color with tan highpoints, medium brown and brick red in the fields. Date nad legends fully visible, some letters indistinct due to the surfaces. An affordable example of this tough variety.
