yes LOT 105 1793 S-15 R7- Liberty Cap NGC graded VG10 . Sharpness F12 with fine hairline scratches on the obverse, mostly on the portrait, and a few light rim bruises on both sides, strongest one under the bust tip. There is a small planchet lamination through the bottom half of the 3 and a dozen small planchet voids on the reverse slanting from the upper left down to the lower right, strongest at the ribbon. The obverse is glossy medium chocolate brown with darker olive brown toning in protected areas, the contrast accenting the details. The reverse is mostly glossy reddish chocolate brown with dark olive covering the protected areas on the lower right. This darker area contains some very light crud or verdigris. The date is strong (although the bottom half of the 3 is distorted slightly by the lamination), and the legends are bold, except for ONE CENT, which is weakened by the usual swelling in the center of the reverse. Later die state, the crack down through Y and reverse swelling both strong. Called net VG7 and tied for CC#4 in the Bland census. Noyes says net G6 and sixth finest known, his photo #20341. Considered VG7 and the fifth finest of only 12 known by James A. Neiswinter, author of the 2013 definitive reference on the S-15 variety: The Aristocrat, The Story of the 1793 Sheldon 15. Our grade is net VG7. An important prize for the advanced collector of early large cents. And it comes with a great provenance, as you would expect. LOT 106 1793 S-16 R6 Liberty Cap NGC Good Details, Environmental Damage . Sharpness G5, even better on the reverse, but this cent had two small holes centrally located, and those holes were very skillfully repaired. Perhaps this cent was used as a “spinner” or button long ago. The repairs are virtually undetectable today. Retoned dark olive brown and steel. Rather dull from microscopic granularity but there is no verdigris and only a few small marks. A small chip in the hair right of the bottom of the cap, a larger one over the right side of the E in CENT, and a small one in the wreath right of the T in CENT are the notable marks. The date is weak but readable and the legends are clear. The reverse is rotated 30 degrees CCW. Graded G5 net AG3 by Noyes, his photo #32400-2. Our grade is net AG3. Comes with a nice provenance.
