EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

 FINEST 1847 N-8 WITH 1 RIM CUD

yes LOT 380 1847 N-8 R3 MS62+ . Lustrous mint red fading to light steel brown with underlying very faded mint color in the obverse fields and at least 25% of the brighter mint color remaining on the reverse. A choice cent if not for a few small spots of darker olive brown and steel toning (not carbon) around the earlobe and a couple more hidden in protected areas around the hair bun. Very rare M-LDS, die state c, with a small but clearly defined rim cud break over AM. Tied for CC#6 for the variety but finest by a small margin among the 10 examples known with the single rim cud. This cent is plated inside the front cover of the second (1987) edition of the Grellman book on late date (1840-1857) cents. A beautiful example of a great die state, and it comes with a very nice provenance. Ex James David Duncan, Numismatic and Antiquarian Service Corporation of America (NASCA) 7/29/1980:13-Bertram M. LOT 381 1847 N-10 R3+ PCGS graded MS64 Brown . Frosty medium brown and light olive with faded red in protected areas on the reverse. Sharp and attractive but there is a hint of rub on the devices and traces of dirt show in some of the protected areas. The only notable mark is a dull, light scratch hidden along the dentil tips from star 2 to star 3. E-MDS with lightly flowlined fields. Our grade is net AU50. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. (The holder is scuffed.) 37289.64/60131116

LOT 383 1847 N-10 R3+ ANACS graded VF30 . Glossy light brown with hints of light olive. Lightly worn with smooth surfaces. The only notable marks are two small rim nicks at the bottom of the reverse. MDS. Our grade is VF30. The attribution is noted on the ANACS label. 7408939

LOT 382 1847 N-10 R3+ EF45 . Choice frosty light to medium steel brown and light chocolate. Satiny luster covers the protected areas on both sides and this cent has great eye appeal for the grade. Lightly worn and essentially flawless showing only microscopic ticks of no significance. MDS.
