2024 EAC Sale

INDIANAPOLIS EAC 2024 BEAUTIFUL 1796 S-85

LOT 227 1796 S-85 R5- Liberty Cap VF20. Very attractive glossy uniform medium chocolate brown. Smooth and choice except for a few old, fine scratches in the field below the cap, and these scratches blend perfectly into the natural toning. Otherwise the only marks are a small, light nick at the truncation above the 9 in the date and a small nick at the top of the wreath. Nicely struck with a bold date and strong legends. EDS, Breen state I, before lapping was done on the reverse die. A very nice example of a variety that is difficult to find in grades above Fine.

LOT 229 1796 S-86 R5 Liberty Cap G5. The obverse is slightly better, the reverse a bit weaker. Both sides are covered with fine roughness but there is no verdigris. The only marks are a light rim bruise under the 79 and another smaller one right of the bust tip, neither significant. Slightly glossy dark steel brown with olive brown in protected areas. MDS, Breen state I. The date is clear and the legends are complete except for weakness at OF AM.

LOT 228 1796 S-85 R5- Liberty Cap VG7+. Slightly glossy dark steel with lighter steel brown on the highpoints. Sharper but covered with fine roughness on all but the highpoints, and the obverse has been lightly smoothed. A small void under the left side of the E in ONE is the best identifying mark. The date is easily readable and the legends are clear. EDS, Breen state I, before the reverse die was lapped.
