EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

LOT 100 1785 Inimica Tyrannis Americana with Large Circle ELECTROTYPE COPY EF45. Glossy chocolate brown. The surfaces are a bit uneven but this electrotype copy is essentially as made. An original of this CONFEDERATIO copper is nearly unobtainable. Weight 189.9 grains.

LOT 103 1649 Netherlands “Lion Daalder” VF20 Sea Salvaged. Frosty light silvery gray with a few patches of darker crud in protected areas on the obverse. The date and legends are complete and clear. A type of trusted early silver coinage that was used in the Americas during pre-colonial times. Listed on page 31 in the 2024 “Redbook.”

LOT 101 1788 Massachusetts Half Cent Evans Copy MS65. Lustrous mint red. A well executed copy produced circa 1948 by Henry Evans for the Tatham Stamp & Coin Company.

LOT 104 1793 C-3 R3 Liberty Cap NGC VF Details, Cleaned, Rim Filed. Smooth with strong details but both sides have been burnished and the rim over IBE has been smoothed. Otherwise nice with a strong date and devices and only trivial marks. A small planchet chip under the right side of the 3 and a line of rim nicks over MERI are the notable marks. Recolored glossy dark steel with tan in protected areas. Our grade is F12 sharpness net VG7. The attribution is noted on the NGC label. 6685630 010

LOT 102 1792 Silver Center Cent ELECTROTYPE COPY VF20. Sharpness VF35 or better, essentially as made, but there is a patch of dark carbon centered on the T in CENT. The copies do not have the silver center. See page 86 in the 2023 “Redbook.”
