INDIANAPOLIS EAC 2024

LOT 96 (1778) Admiral Keppel/Victory Medal, Unlisted in Betts PCGS graded VF35. Slightly glossy light olive and steel brown. There is a scuff of fine hairline scratches on the forehead and a couple tiny depressions in the right obverse fields, but neither is at all distracting. The “Victory” was Admiral Keppel’s flagship that is depicted in high relief on the reverse of this medal. While this medal is not cataloged in the Betts reference, it is mentioned by the editors on page 310. It was struck after the Battle of Ushant to recognize Keppel’s leadership but before the courts martial proceedings were initiated. A nice companion to the preceding lot. Weight 64.2 grains, diameter 24.1 mm, struck in medal turn (head to-head).

LOT 97 1739 Admiral Vernon Medal, Portobello, Betts-221, PBvi 5-E, R5 AU50. Sharp but the obverse (Admiral Vernon side) was lightly cleaned. The obverse is golden tan; the reverse is frosty light brown with brassy tan in protected areas. Superior to the Newman example that was badly stained. Diameter 49.9mm, weight 267.0 grains.

LOT 99 1783 Peace of Versailles Medal Betts-608 CAST COPY AU55. Frosty with just a touch of rub that exposed the base metal on the highest points of the devices.
