LOT 666 1796 S-87 R3 Liberty Cap G5+. Several points sharper but the obverse is covered with myriad fine hairline scratches and there are a few more on the reverse. Partly glossy brown and light chocolate. No corrosion or verdigris. A tiny chip at the rim left of the bottom of the cap and another at the top of the wreath are good identifying marks. EDS. OF is weak but everything else is clear.

LOT 663 1796 S-81 R3 Liberty Cap G4. The obverse is sharper, the reverse is weaker, as usual on these Liberty Cap 96’s. The surfaces are decent but not perfectly smooth. No verdigris and the only notable marks are a small dig on the throat, a diagonal scratch in the hair left of the eye, and a small mark bellow the N in UNITED. Slightly glossy dark olive brown and steel with lighter steel brown on the devices. The date is clear and most of the legends are easily readable.

LOT 667 1796 S-90 R5+ Liberty Cap Fair-2+. Somewhat glossy chocolate and steel brown. The obverse sharpness is close to G4 but the reverse is barely Fair-2. The surfaces are not perfectly smooth but they aren’t bad considering the low grade. A rim nick was smoothed left of the bottom of the cap and another was smoothed under the tip of the bust, and there is a scuff of light scratches on the reverse. The date is nearly complete, only the 1 showing significant weakness, but no more than half the reverse designs remain visible, and those are weak. Struck with the reverse upset head-to-head rather than the usual head-to-foot die orientation.

LOT 664 1796 S-81 R3 Liberty Cap AG3. The obverse is sharper, the reverse weaker, perhaps a 5/2 split. Covered with fine roughness but void of marks or verdigris. Essentially just well worn. Partly glossy medium brown. The date and LIBERTY are clear but no more than half of the devices on the reverse are readable, and they are weak. EDS.
