LOT 521 1853 N-24 R2 AU50. Frosty light steel brown with 5-10% of the mint color remaining. Close to mint state but there is a touch of friction on the highpoints and a few small nicks on the chin and jaw. A vertical planchet fissure shows in the hair on the main curl, and the fissure contains some dark planchet slag. It’s a mint-made flaw but it does catch your eye thanks to the dark slag. M-LDS, die state b. The die lines at the main and inner curls are gone.

LOT 520 1853 N-21 R3 AU55. Lustrous medium brown and light chocolate with peeps of faded mint color on the reverse. Very attractive with just a touch of rub on the highpoints. A small puff of darker olive brown toning at the base of the 8 can help identify this cent. MDS, die state b. The fields are flowlined and the small die lines on the obverse are gone. Comes with a nice provenance.

LOT 522 1853 N-29 R3- PCGS graded MS63 Red & Brown. Frosty light olive and bluish steel brown with about 15% of the planchet showing mint red, mostly on the obverse. The only mark is a small spot of carbon over star 4. The highpoints, especially the ones on the reverse, have been wiped giving them a glossy shine. MDS, die state b. The lines from the neck are gone but the ones from the dentils at stars 1-2 are still visible. Our grade is MS60. 1902.63/26560605



LOT 524 1854 N-18 R2+ AU50+. Sharpness very close to mint state but this cent was dipped long ago, now retoned frosty faded red and light olive brown with hints of rose and bluish steel overtone. A small spot of darker toning in the dentils at TE in STATES is the best identifying mark. LDS, die state c. The die lines at the E in ONE are gone, die clashmarks show on both sides, and a very shallow low spot shows on the upper part of the neck into the jaw.

LOT 523 1854 N-17 R1 EF45. Close to mint state but there is hard crud (like plaster) in some protected areas on the obverse, mostly at the inner curl and stars 12 & 13. Otherwise the surfaces are lustrous and there are generous peeps of mint red remaining on both sides. No notable contact marks. M-LDS, die state b. The die lines on the obverse are gone and the ones at NITED are weak, but the reverse is uncracked.
